Connect Canva to an AI assistant
You can connect supported AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot to Canva using Canva’s AI Connector. Once connected, you can use supported Canva features directly from your AI assistant. Depending on your Canva plan and AI assistant, you can search Brand Templates, autofill them, and export files. You can do this in one chat.
After you connect, you can use supported Canva features from your AI assistant, like searching designs, generating content, exporting files, and more. To see the full list of actions and example prompts, go to. Actions you can take in AI assistants connected to Canva MCP
View features and availability
The Canva AI Connector is available for all Canva accounts, including Canva Free and Canva Education.
Some actions such as using Brand Templates require a paid plan. Eligible plans include Canva Pro, Canva Teams, Canva Business, Canva Nonprofit, Canva Enterprise, or Canva Education.
If you're on a Canva team, your admin may need to allow the AI Connector.
Choose your AI assistant
Select the AI assistant you want to connect to Canva. Each platform has its own setup steps.
- Connect your Canva account to ChatGPT
- Connect your Canva account to Claude
- Connect your Canva account to Gemini
- Connect your Canva account to Microsoft Copilot
Manage team admin controls
If you’re on Canva Teams, Canva Business, Canva for Nonprofit, Canva Education, or Canva Enterprise, your admin decides whether you can connect AI assistants.
- The AI Connector counts as a third-party integration.
- Admins can turn it on or off under Settings → Controls and Permissions.
- When it’s off, nobody on the team can connect an assistant. Existing connections stop working.
- It uses the same permissions as the Canva Connect API. If your organisation isn’t comfortable granting these permissions, leave it off.
For admins: You can manage access in the Admin Dashboard → Controls and Permissions → Third‑party integrations, then toggle Canva’s AI Connector on or off.
When it’s enabled, a connected assistant can read design details and folders, and create and edit designs. On Canva Enterprise, you can fill a Brand Template with your own data (autofill) to create designs at scale. Review your data rules before you turn on the connector. If needed, limit access to approved people.

What can cause this
- Your admin has disabled third-party integrations or the AI Connector for your team/school

- If you’re on Teams, Education, or Enterprise, ask your admin to check that third‑party integrations / Canva’s AI Connector are enabled.

- If the issue is specific to one AI assistant, follow that platform’s setup guide (ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini/Microsoft Copilot).

- Check whether your account has access to the feature you’re trying to use (for example, autofill).
Frequently Asked Questions
What can I do with AI Connector?
After connecting, you can use supported Canva features directly from your AI assistant like searching designs, generating content, exporting files, and more.
For the full list of available actions and example prompts, see Use Canva in your AI assistant.
Can I use it on multiple AI assistants?
Yes. You can connect Canva to multiple supported AI assistants using the same Canva account. If you run into issues switching between assistants, make sure you’re signed into the correct Canva account and that Canva is enabled in your assistant’s connected apps or integrations settings.
Do I need a specific Canva plan to use the AI Connector?
Canva’s AI Connector is available on Canva plans, but:
- Some features depend on your plan (for example, certain brand/admin features may require Enterprise).
- AI-powered actions (like generating designs) may use your monthly Canva AI credits.
Do these actions use Canva AI credits?
Some AI-powered actions do. If you hit a limit or cooldown, AI-powered actions may pause until credits refresh. Note that your AI assistant may also have its own usage limits (like message or token limits), separate from Canva.
Why can’t I see Canva in my AI assistant (or it won’t connect)?
This can happen if:
- Your admin has disabled third‑party integrations or the AI Connector for your team or school.
- You’re signed into the wrong Canva account.
- Canva isn’t enabled in your AI assistant’s connected apps or integrations settings.
For platform-specific steps, follow the setup guide for your AI assistant (ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini/Microsoft Copilot).
Is this the same as the Developer MCP Server?
No. Canva’s AI Connector is designed for connecting supported AI assistants to Canva for everyday use.
Why do I see an upgrade message when I try to use Brand Templates?
You might be using a Canva Free account. Searching Brand Templates requires a paid Canva plan, and Autofill requires Canva Enterprise. You’ll also only see Brand Templates that have been shared with you. Double-check that you’re signed in to the right Canva account, then ask a team admin or Brand Designer to share the templates you need.
